The Education Department, Government of Gujarat has notified the Common Academic Calendar for the academic year 2026-27 for all government universities under the Education Department (excluding Medical, Engineering, Pharmacy, and Professional courses), vide Circular No. 145/2026 issued by Hemchandracharya North Gujarat University, Patan, dated 16/06/2026, based on Government Resolution No. ED/MSM/e-file/3/2023/4088/KH-1 dated 26/05/2026.
Key Dates
- First Semester (UG Sem 3 & 5, PG Sem 3): Academic work begins 15/06/2026 (teaching + academic work up to 02/12/2026 — 120 working days)
- First Semester (UG Sem 1 & 7, PG Sem 1): Begins 01/07/2026
- University/College Internal & University Examinations: To be completed between 08/10/2026 and 02/12/2026
- Diwali Vacation: 05/11/2026 to 25/11/2026 (21 days) — uniform across Gujarat Technological University and other higher/technical education universities/colleges
- First Semester Completion: By 02/12/2026
- Second Semester (UG Sem 2, 4, 6 & 8, PG Sem 2 & 4): 03/12/2026 to 26/04/2027 (teaching included — 113 working days)
- Internal & University Examinations: 25/03/2027 to 26/04/2027
- Second Semester Completion: By 26/04/2027
- Summer Vacation (Colleges): 27/04/2027 to 14/06/2027 (49 days)
- Summer Vacation (Universities): 11/05/2027 to 14/06/2027 (35 days)
- New Academic Session 2027-28: Begins 15/06/2027
Important Notes
- All teaching and non-teaching staff must perform assigned examination duties during university semester exams.
- Internal examinations of university departments/colleges shall be conducted as per the affiliated university's structure and norms.
- As per UGC Notification dated 18/07/2018 (provision 14.1) regarding academic days, every university must ensure academic functioning on a 6-day week basis.
- As per the same provision, vacation shall be 8 weeks for universities and 10 weeks for colleges.
